Admiring Fellow Writers
The Insecure Writer's Support Group suggested the following theme for January 2025. |
Describe a person you admired when you were a child. Did the opinion you had of this person change as you grew up?
The only one I admired very much when I was a child is the signer who i grew up with: Céline Dion. We are the same age but, she got to sing and become a superstar. I remember being able to sing as loud and high as her. I knew all of her songs until our adulthood. Now, i don’t envy her life in a way, but I do envy it at the same time. She burnt ou from her life as a signer then became a mom. She had her first child when i had my third one. I still lobe her voice. I wish she gets to keep singing until the end of her life. I wish her boys stay sane and happy through their life. I a way, she is like a sister but not so much.
As a writer, nos I still have a few writers I have been looking up to:
- Joanna Penn : I want to provide steady writing like her, and continue for a long time. I realized recently I have been listening to her podcasts since the beginning!
- Sarra Cannon: I want to do my best to balance between personal, family and arts (including writing).
- Courtney who writes as Lyra Parish: I'd like to be as solid and productive as her. She already published more than 50 books.
- Juneta : I want to become a story whisperer and a persistent writer like her.
These are big names for me. Yup! Each of them has something I wished I had. I can learn these things, and therefore I still follow them online, when possible.
To complete the knowledge I get from those mentors, I need another one.
I wished I knew a french canadian writer who carries all of the above and self-publishes their books. Maybe I'll be that one? (I feel arrogant saying this. That’s who I’m an insecure writer!!!) Maybe I haven't look for this model at the right places? If you know one or more, please tell me who they are and share their books with us in the comments below!
I wrote this post with the help of those AI: DeepL Translator and Prowriting Aid
Welcome to the IWSG! Joanna Penn is awesome as is our own IWSG admin Juneta.
ReplyDelete🙂 Thank you !
DeleteI like how you mention writers you admire. Hope this is okay to ask, but do you use AI assistance becauce you are writing in English as a French or other language speaker? I'd never considered assitive tools for blogging.
ReplyDelete🙂 I grew up and I mainly use French language on a day-to-day basis, but I can use English. It takes more of my time and energy to write directly in English, but as I’m doing this, I gain more and more confidence in my writing. Most of the time, I write a first draft in French, then I translate it with AI (this saves time), I confirm the translation (to make sure it reflects my thoughts). As more to it, when necessary. Then I check the grammar with ProwritingAid. Usually, each version gets more precise and concise.
ReplyDeleteCeline Dion certainly made her mark in the music industry as well as Vegas. I admire many singers and musicians, but my main writing interest is writing songs so there is that relation. No matter how old we might be, we're never too old to dream.
ReplyDeleteLee
I love the writers you mentioned. That's awesome.
ReplyDeleteAnonymously Esther O'Neill, still without a phone signal, Google, understandably, might find this hard to believe - and only just reading this post . In January, we'd been snowed out/iced in, Admire and respect other writers, ? Awed, always, by other writers'dedication and imagination, will try to follow some of these.
